The hole, the walls and the packing...

Well, after driving by our lot a few times and just seeing 'dirt' as our kids called it, we were starting to think that was all we were getting. We were pleasantly surprised a week and a half ago when we found our 'dirt' had become our 'hole. The very next day our 'hole' started to have a shape similar to our future basement.
The girls enjoyed Daddy letting them play in the 'hole'
Luckily it was bath night!

Three days later- the foundation is poured.

Mommy, Daddy and Three Little Monkeys!

Sump pump and weeping tile.

Forms for the foundation walls.

Basement walls get formed.

Not as much dirt to play in and definitely no more hole to play in, but the girls are happy!
The forms are removed to reveal the foundation (basement) walls.

The new garage.
As the new house gets built....
More boxes get filled at the other house.

Our storage 'bin' arrives.

On paper this 'bin' looks huge with 'plenty' of room for all of our stuff.
I even made 3-D models using AutoCAD on our computer proving that everything would fit.
Well, the very first item (our couch) wasn't quite as square as I had planned and ended up taking 2 more feet than I had anticipated. Although, I kept telling all the naysayers (everyone else, but me) that we had lots of room and everything would fit, it actually took me until the bin was about 3/4 full for me to admit that we didn't have enough room (or alternatively- we have way too much stuff!). We already had a climate controlled indoor storage unit rented for our electronics, picture albums and MAD Magazines, but even it was getting full. My lovely wife saved the day (as always) and called the storage unit people to switch our small unit to a larger one. After we had the 'bin' filled we drove to our storage 'unit' to move the stuff from the original one to the larger one. After four more trips to the storage 'unit' using two vans each trip, we were finished for the day.

Waiting for something to happen...

My five year old and I went for a wagon ride this evening and we did some exploring around our future property. The hole for the basement should be dug this week with footings being installed next week. Here is a picture from the very back (fence) of our new property.
I'm not too sure how much my five year old understood when I told her "Stand here, this is when the TV will be in our new home."
As my youngest daughter has said "Look Daddy, there's our dirt!"
The hole and footings for our neighbors house were completed this past week. According to our builder, our house building schedule is approximately one week after our neighbors.
By the way, these neighbors have become our "N.F.L's - Neighbors For Life".
They are also our current neighbors, believe it or not!!

The back-hoe or 'big digger' won't have to go too far to get to its next job.

The 'SOLD' sign finally went up on our house last Saturday.

I think our youngest is getting into the 'packing everything up' a little too seriously!!
At least she looks comfortable with her blankie!

I think that after this move I'm going to invest in the moving box and bubble wrap industry.
This isn't even half of the boxes!!

2 Months Worth of News

We begin this update with a picture of our girls with their cousins at Easter.
Goofing around!

For about a year now our oldest girl has been taking dance classes at the local YMCA. Here they are dancing the classic 'Head and Shoulders'.

As you can see, I am in shorts at Easter! We had a very unseasonably warm long weekend.

The girls waiting for Easter to start- Notice that the gate wasn't used!
"Look at our hats Daddy!"
The Easter Bunny brought clothes, some toys, and lots of chocolate!
oh yeah and new cups!
Taking advantage of the warmer weather, we decided to 'borrow' our newest neighbor (1 years old) and go for a walk to the park. Notice our youngest girls biking skills.

Eventually Daddy had to put the tricycle in the wagon because 'somebody' got tired!
Here's that 'somebody' going down the slide!
Girls on a teeter-tauter and an empty basketball court.

We like under-ducks!
What happens when you don't bar-b-cue all winter?
Visitors move in and make it their home!
Nothing was still around when I opened this up, but their home (and their mess) sure was!
Making a picture for Mommy and Daddy

FOR SALE: ONE LOVELY HOUSE. Yes that's correct folks, after building our first house, making it our home, finsihing the basement, having two beautiful girls and living in the house for seven years we've decided that it was just getting too small. We met with our realtor last Friday and the 'For Sale ' sign went up the very next day.

We both had mixed emotions watching this sign go up. But since the girls are only going to be getting biggest and also geting more and more stuff, we realized that it was time to move into something bigger. We've decided to build again, with the same builder that built our first house.
"Our dirt" Brand new sub-division in the same general area as our current house. This lot is actualy on my regular jogging route. It will be alot of fun watching our new home getting built. The hole should be started in about 2 weeks and the house is scheduled for completion the first week of September.
